Well ---- I can't help myself --- I have to share the events that made up my day boxing with Hornicorn.
There are some things that happen on the trails that are just pure magic! Hornicorn and I literally stepped off the trail and crossed over the river --- okay dried up creek --- and went through the woods to find a well-hidden box. Wooo hooo we found it and I had just put my camera in my pack and slung it on my back when we heard this thunderous crashing in the brush and trees ahead. It was moving fast --- real fast --- we didn't even have a chance to ask each other what was happening. Suddenly, two fawns burst out of the brush and raced past us at breakneck speed zooming so close to our bodies that if we had extended a hand we would have stroked their fur as they streamed past us. Fawn #1 was barely in the lead with Fawn #2 closing fast. They both had their little ears in the fastback position for aerodynamics and I had this overwhelming sense that they really were racing each other to a finish line that only they knew about. It really was incredible because my immediate thought was they are acting like kids --- you know --- I'll race you for it and off they go.
Then, Hornicorn said "Oh --- where is your camera? There is Mama." Sure enough Mama was standing up ahead trying to decide whether to follow or not.
http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/04/13/47713lg.jpg
She paced back and forth a bit and then here came this guy
http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/04/14/47714lg.jpg
who wanted to go after the other two! He paced and made one little bleating sound and then he just stood there trying to decide whether to chance it or not. Eventually, the baby and another doe gracefully flicked their tails and off they went in the opposite direction from Hornicorn and myself. Mama finally wandered uphill and away in the direction that the two fawns ran.
For me it was a very special experience.
We finished boxing in that particular park and then we headed off to a different location and on our way we saw this car:
http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/04/17/47717lg.jpg
We thought it could be Dina B.'s new car --- at least she couldn't lose this one!
We had received a mysterious phone call from Wrighton about a note left for us with a turtle that would be waiting in the next park. I have never seen so many gigantic turtles --- they were everywhere and could only be dreamed up in the imagination of children. But, sure enough we finally came across our note-holding turtle:
http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/04/15/47715lg.jpg
http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/04/16/47716lg.jpg
and of course I can't share the contents of that note but it was a wonderful sweet gesture from Wrighton and family. Thanks guys! That note made our day!
Finally, it was time to part ways for the day with promises to box together again. I was nearing the end of my drive home when I got a mysterious phone call from the hubby. He wanted to know if I had my camera with me and then gave me directions to a parking lot. When I got there this is what I found:
http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/04/18/47718lg.jpg
and have you ever wondered what the license plate of this car looks like --- well, here it is:

Now, who would have thought that!
What a great day letterboxing!

Christine,
This was definitely, a wonderful and magical day. The deer watching us was one of the most incredible experiences
I've had while boxing, and are you sure that wasn't Dina B in that car? LOL
And Janet, we loved getting the note from you and the girls, just sorry we couldn't be at the same park at the same time.
Wish everyone could have had as great a day as we did!

It was a great day.
I can't wait to see what Friday brings --- I'm off to do some boxing with Knit Wit in Asheville. That alone is enough to perk up Darth Wolf's ears. Perhaps the forces of evil will be . . . wait. . . I'm breaking . . . up. . . .

Dark side this and dark side that.... come on people! She saw an Oscar Meyer Weenie Car!!!! The important thing I know we all want to know that no one is brave enough to ask is... so did ya get an Oscar Meyer Weenie Whistle? Huh? Did you? Did the driver break out in song and serenade you? Did you sing along? :)

I recently had one of those special trail magic days, too. And I was wishing there was another way to share that at AQ. Like a Trail Magic Discussion Board or Trail Magic photo album. I think it would be fun to look through. It's such an important part of letterboxing - the adventure.

No (hanging head low and shaking) --- the driver was already in the hotel for the evening.
But, I was surprised the car didn't have an after hours "handler" to make sure sightseers didn't damage the car. The funniest thing I saw was this group of men taking pictures of themselves acting like they were eating the hotdog. They were senior citizens. Really quite a spectacle.

I already have one of those and some of my letterboxing adventures get in there, although I don't always label them as such http://sheltontrails.blogspot.com/ . And a letterboxing blog is different - I don't necessarily want to read about every letterboxing trip a particular person has ever made. On the other hand, it would be nice to see a collection of particularly noteworthy adventures a variety of letterboxers have had.

I'm more inclined towards a photo album. The pictures of the fawns from this thread would be great. Long blog entries are something different. I'm thinking something that can be skimmed or flipped through, combining various letterboxers.
