Did you find a rubber stamp among the things on the ground? That part is really the "heart" of the letterbox - the true treasure we all seek. If you didn't find that, I was wondering if perhaps you could do the owner of the box a favor and, uh, how to put this delicately... would you mind keeping an eye out in Harvey's, uh, spoor, for the stamp? Most rubber stamps will not digest, and will probably come out relatively intact (assuming he is like MY dog and swallows without chewing). I am sure the box owner would appreciate the consideration. Be very sure of one thing: The owner of that box wants to hear from you! S/he will want to put it back where it belongs per the clues, rather than somewhere in the rough area or a "new spot."

Is there a name - either box or placer name? Any other identifying info? Anything for us to help you find the owner?

Love that Harvey found you a new hobby - for you both!

Does the info sheet have the box name on it? or is it chewed up too bad?

Or maybe the logbook? Was there a book in the box? Filled, possibly, with people's stamp images? Sometimes it will have the placer's name on it ... or at least the name of the box, and you can search AQ for that name. If you can't figure it out, just post the information you do have and I am sure one of these other addicted souls can help you get to the right person (who would rather replace the stamp than disinfect it - that I agree with!! haha!)

As for "welcome to the addiction," yes ..... um, you don't know it yet, but you actually found Pandora's Box ... ;-)
