***as of October 2009, this box has been reported missing. It's likely that it is. I'm about 500 miles away, so I can't confirm this.***
Out near Las Vegas, New Mexico (not sin city) there is a Scientologist compound, where apparently the Scientologists have put all of the writings of L. Ron Hubbard on platinum records, and archival paper, and sealed it all in titanium boxes (along with a solar powered record player), so that their records will survive an impending nuclear blast. Survive for whom, you may ask? According to ex-members of the group, those records are for those who will come in the spaceships after we destroy ourselves... How will those spaceships know where to look? Well, those crafty Scientologists have taken care of that detail too. Apparently there are two giant linking rings carved into the rock of the desert floor out in New Mexico that mark the place of their records for those with a space-ships eye view. It is worth noting, that current Scientology members claim that the markings are not for that purpose. Either way, the giant rings are real, and the compound is real, and it's all a bit stranger than fiction, so I thought I'd put a box out there to represent it. Unfortunately for you folks without aircraft, you can't actually see the rings, so I've included a picture. The box is not near the compound either.
Clues: From HWY 65 out of Las Vegas, head towards (and a little ways passed) Montezumas Castle. When you see a large silver footbridge on your left, look for a break in the guard rail, and pull over. Near the bridge is a Montezuma sign. With Montezuma at your back, walk about 30 steps down the guard rail and look to your left for a tree with small logs at its base. The box is under the center log.
Take a stroll over the bridge, there are hiking trails there too, and a nearby public hot springs as well. Enjoy!
