Box Comments

Pittsburg: mother Nellie's headstone has fallen off the base. I looked in the rubble of the base but didn't find a box.
Cincinnati: found!
Milwaukee: there is no rock around the grave and there's no room at the base to hide a box.

With the help of comments, I was able to find the headstone for Pittsburgh. While I did not find the box under there, something stung me. Cincinnati is still in place. Thank you for planting.

Pittsburg: the tree is gone, but the box is still there. Had to throw out the disintegrating logbook.
Milwaukee: found a matching memorial, but no obvious place for a box.
Cincinnati: got that one no problem. :-)

All is well with boxes

Pittsburgh - pine tree gone, look for red Huffmember stone, then right. Stamp good, replaced everything else (book, baggies, outer bag) as well as a rock.

Cincinnati - replaced outer bag & added a book.

Milwaukee - replaced everything.

Last three are all gone - no ivy at Chicago.

I was at the cemetery today to get a few other boxes and decided to swing back by the Pittsburgh and see if I could repair it. It was still there, in even worse shape than when I originally found it.

The stamp is covered in mold and has bugs in the bag with it. I actually found the outer bag that I had thought was missing, shoved further up under the stone, but it was ripped at both ends. I didn't feel comfortable throwing the "box" away, despite its condition, so I put it back as I had found it.

I came prepared with multiple bags, napkins, tape, wipes, log pages, and a fresh outer bag, hoping to save it since it was in such bad shape when I originally found it...but there is honestly just nothing left to save now. I only wish I'd had this stuff with me last time. There is just nothing salvageable there. :(

We found Milwaukee and Cincinnati today! Milwaukee is in rough shape. It was missing an outer bag and the log book was drenched. We couldn't stamp it with our stamps. We did stamp the Milwaukee stamp into our books. We replaced all the bagging and sealed it up as well as we possibly could before re-hiding it.

Cincinnati is in fine shape, still in its proper bag and dry. The log book is full, though. We stamped on the backs of other pages, but there's not much space left. I stamped it backwards the first time because I can't be trusted to follow directions, so future letterboxers—pay attention and don't be me. :)

Lord, the typos in my previous comment. I was on my phone, sitting in my car right by the box. Please do not judge my phone's inability to understand grammar. :)

We only had time to grab Pittsburgh, and while the stamp was there, they're was no logbook or larger bag. The stamp was wrapped in a paper towel and in a small Ziploc, by two other Ziplocs and a saturated paper towel we're crammed in the spot. No outer bag at all. I took a photo of everything we found. We replaced the stamp, as I am not sure what the protocol is here, but it is definitely vulnerable. We'll come back to find the rest of the series another day.

Really fun series for my first day out!! :) Pittsburg definitely needs a new log book, though. The last three were missing - 95% sure I found where they should have been though, which was still fun!
