Description
Join us up near Lake Ontario in Western New York (near Lewiston) at 4 Mile Creek State Park (http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/6/details.aspx)! This is in the upper part of Niagara County, so if you've never been to the Falls, Fort Niagara or Wine County, you're in for a treat! We'll have clue books available for folks that need them, so don't worry about printing up anything inside the park. This is always a family friendly occasion and we always have surprise out-of-town guest stars, so don't miss out. This year will have our usual double feature...a day event and a night one! The overnight camping experience will take place at the same park as the day event, making getting back and forth MUCH easier. If you'll be staying with us (whether for Saturday only or Friday and Saturday, be sure to ALSO sign up here so we know to expect you at the campgrounds: http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gEventId=1665As usual, LBNY T-shirts and patches are still available! The shirts are through Cafe Press so you can order them yourselves at http://www.cafepress.com/lbwny and the patches (based on the logo from the shirts, but with more color) will be available at the event. They're $2 each, but if you want yours sooner, send that plus $1 Shipping & Handling via Paypal (contact us for our Paypal address!).
Note to Newbies: If you're NEVER been to an event and want some idea of what to expect when attending a gathering, just click here for some tips: http://www.atlasquest.com/events/tips2.html
Apr 25, 2010: The Art of CommuNYcation 2010
Alright, the name's a bit of a stretch, but this year's theme is communication of all kinds (the night event, Fireside Chat, was LOTS easier to come up with!).
So, if you're interested in making a stamp series to hide at 4 Mile Creek State Park for the event, we'd greatly appreciate it! If you can make them, but don't have time to hide them, just contact the Highlander and I by the beginning of August. We'll take them to 4 Mile Creek ourselves, hide them and list you as the carver and owner of the boxes.
Aug 1, 2010: It's finally AUGUST!
Just a few more weeks until the event! Some stuff to know:
* The food list is looking pretty skinny for 51 people! If you haven't offered to bring anything, please do! There's burgers and dogs for all, but it goes pretty fast if there's not much else to eat!
* If you plan on staying overnight on the campgrounds, be sure to sign up for Fireside Chat 2010. This means getting a campsite ASAP and letting us know where you are so we can visit you all weekend!
* New t-shirts? No, people keep THINKING they're new, but they've been around forever. You can get yours (as well as anything ELSE you want the logo on) at our Cafe Press store.
* Who's excited about this event? WE are! Celtic Quinn is back with a series of 26 stamps for this event, plus we've got a dozen more to add, not to mention the NIGHT boxing!
That's all for now...see you in a few weeks!
Aug 3, 2010: Event Page is now active!
The official event page is up, so you can look here for park directions and other general info: http://thesprite.orgfree.com/letterboxing/gathering7.htm
Be sure to check back as the date approaches for any changes (and, of course, the box clues, which will be posted Wednesday August 18th)!
Aug 4, 2010: ComedySportz Buffalo Show on the 20th
Many of you know that I (the Sprite) do improv on the weekends and, if you come to a show, I give you the CSz With Me Traveler stamp. I took myself out of rotation for the weekend of the event (since we've got night boxing Saturday), however, I know some of you may not be in town again for quite a while.
If there's real interest in coming to a show that first night of camping, let me know. It starts at 8 pm and if I tell the team in advance, I should be able to play and get anyone that wants to get in for $8 a ticket, instead of $10. RSVP if you're interested and, if we have enough folks, I'll make another event sign up ASAP.
Aug 10, 2010: WNY Pre Show event now listed
As per request, The Sprite WILL be performing with ComedySportz Buffalo the night before the WNY event. This is the only way to get the CSZ With Me stamp, so rather than try to figure out who wanted to go, we went ahead and made an AQ event for this. We're trying to get discounted tickets, so sign up ASAP if you're interested. Remember, this will be the Friday night before the event, so if you live in town, you might as well join us for some fun!
Aug 17, 2010: Some last minute info!
1. There's no Highlander this weekend, so that means no one manning the grill. Because of this, I'm backing off to just hotdogs instead of burgers and dogs. Does anyone have a noxer spouse or friend that wants to watch the grill Saturday from noon until the dogs are done?
2. Frog Queen mentioned that the police have been heavily radaring the area, so all you leadfooters, watch yourselves!
3. If you're going to the ComedySportz show with us, please sign up on the event page. The cost of tickets is contingent on the numbers, so we need to have everyone squared away. The show starts at 8 p.m. and you need to be there at 7:30 to be counted on the "tenfer" pass. If you're not sure how to to get there, you can follow Jiggs and myself down. More details are at the event page.
4. Because of the Friday show and no Highlander, any potluck dinner done at the campgrounds Friday night will be done pretty early for me and without a grill. If anyone else wants to try their hand at it, I'm all for it, though!
5. Clues will be posted tomorrow! Use the link on the event page to get to them!
Aug 18, 2010: Two more updates!
1. Bring your own chairs! There's maybe two benches under this pavilion, so we have to make do (next year, better park, I promise!)
2. The Highlander is FINE! I'm sorry I didn't mention that in my update. He just started a new job in July and it's too soon for him to feel comfortable asking for time off.
More stuff as it happens!
