Description
Letterboxing on a train? What could be better? How about a train that goes through the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley in the fall? The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will leave the Akron North station at 10:40 and arrive in beautiful downtown Peninusla at
11:20 a.m. We will all get off the train and letterbox until about 3 pm. The train will again be going North around the time, so we can finish our train ride
(the train would be going back through before then, but it will be going south, and we wouldn't get the full train ride experience). Once on the train lb'ers will want to bring along hard surfaces (i.e. clipboards or hardbound journals) to stamp on since there might not be any hard surfaces to stamp in.
The village of Peninsula has several restaurants that lb'ers can eat at, or if you want to pack a lunch there are benches at the train stop and I spoke with
the chamber of commerce there and the gentleman there said that there are a few picnic tables and benches scattered throughout the town, but there isn't
one certain pavillion or shelter, so just keep that in mind if you decide to pack your lunch. You can also eat on the train either with your own packed lunch, or
the train has a dining car that they serve lunch type food.
There will be letterboxes spread around the village to find and there are plenty of shops for everyone to visit and enjoy! If you'd like to carve a stamp for us to
hide in this event please aq me! We'd also like everyone to bring a train stamp along (it can be part of a train, or something related to a train) so that everyone can have a stamp :) Please, please, please bring along your table top boxes and your personal travelers 'cause we will be on the train for awhile :)
People will need to meet back at train depot in the village around 2:30 or 3 to be able to get back on the train and continue letterboxing on the train. The train will return to the Akron North station around 5:25. There's a FANTASTIC pizza place not too far from the train station there, if any lb'ers are hungry afterwards and want to buy me dinner! :) haha
The cost per person is $15 ( the cost is actually $13.50 if we get 80 people, but we decided to charge a flat $15 that way if there are any extra unforseen expenses, if that's an issue, please aq me and we'll work something out :) and we have to have 80 people to get that rate. If we happen to get MORE than 80 (that's a real long shot), but we can hire an extra car and can work out the rate for the extras that want to go, EVERYONE is WELCOME!! :)
The site for the railroad is www.cvsr.com, so if you'd like to take a look at what we'll be doing.
Here are IMPORTANT dates that must be noted!
April 10th, last day to RSVP for this event, remember we need AT LEAST 80 people to get the group rate
We've had to change the day that monies are due to May 1st to ensure that we get the two train cars. Contact Paisley Pineapple to make payment arrangements.
If you know of anyone who would like to sign up, PLEASE tell them about it!
Any questions please aq me and any stamps you'd like to contribute please aq me :)
Please sign up! We would love to have an opportunity to see you all there!
Apr 2, 2011: All ABOOOAAARRDDDD Update!
Hi Everyone!
Hope you're all making time in this semi-nice (hey it's not snowing!) weather to get out there and box!
Just wanted to remind everyone of a very important date that is FAST approaching! May 1st, is just right around the corner and that means time to have your money in!
Here's an important message from your friendly Pineapple:
Howdy folks. I am Paisley Pineapple, and I will be coordinating your fare this event.
I wanted to remind you all that a very important date is coming faster than you think: MAY 1!
Any folks without payment in by May 1 will be dropped to make room for those on the waiting list.
Remember, in order for the event to occur at all, we need all the fares to come in on time.
In short, as soon as you read this, AQ mail me for my mailing address and instructions. As soon as you read the message, put your payment in the mail.
If you are on the waiting list, please don’t fret. I will contact you about payment arrangements if a spot opens up. I suggest budgeting the fare money ahead of time to expedite things.
Thanks everyone (and everyone thanks you)!
If anyone has any questions about the event, please aq me (Anne Bonny) and if anyone has any questions about the money please aq Paisley Pineapple :)
Apr 25, 2011: Only 5 days!
Only 5 days to make payment to reserve your spot on the LB express! Where has the time gone??? If you haven't already contacted Paisley Pineapple about your payment please do so ASAP! We have a bunch of people frothing at the mouth to get on the train, (and who can blame them! haa) so if you want to be sure to reserve your spot, get your payment in SOON!! May 1st is the deadline!
If you have any questions about the event, please aq me. I'm just starting finals, but I'll try and answer them.
If you have any questions about PAYMENT, please aq Paisley Pineapple, she's the main money woman!
Sep 1, 2011: September 1 - 9 days to go!
Hello all! Guess what I am holding in my hot little hands? That's right the tickets are here! I want to thank everyone who has donated a stamp for the event. Now if you're saying to yourself "Anne Bonny, I want to donate a stamp, I want to be a part of THAT awesomeness!" Never fear! You still have a little bit of time to get your carve on! AQ me if you want to show the rest of your fellow train riders your awesome skills with a knife (no we're not tying Paisley to a large corkboard and throwing knives at her! I've tried it, she gets a little irritated!). We can work something out carving wise and you would have major appreciate from the pirate and the pineapple (hmm, I'm smelling a carve! lol).
Everything is a go as far as the event is concerned. We're all meeting at the station NO LATER than 10:10! Please be earlier because we have to check everyone in! We'll be passing along more information that day and if you have any other questions, please aq me or Paisely Pineapple.
Don't forget to AQ me if you want to contribute a carve!
Now, let's get ready to be ALLLL ABBBOOOOOAAARRDD!
Sep 7, 2011: MAJOR UPDATE!
Ok all, so here's the 411 (does anyone even still use 411? Ahh the wonderfulness of smartphones!)
I called the train company today to find out which cars we'll be in and seems that there was some sort of SNAFU on their end. So, instead of 2 train cars, we have 125 individual tickets. *sighing* So, she's going to let the conductors know that we need to be seated together and they're going to do their best.
What this means to you the faithful lber
1) The train leaves out at 10:40 from the Akron Station. Do NOT get to the station any later than 10!! 9:30 would be best! We need to get everyone checked in and lined up so we can try and get on together as a group!
2)The train is leaving Peninsula at 3, please be at the depot area no later than 2:15, again so we can get everyone checked back in and all on the train together.
3) The Pineapple and I will be handing out cards that have imporatant info on them (phone numbers etc.) Please keep these with you!
4) Keep your train ticket with you, you'll need it to get back on board the train.
5) In honer of Sept. 11, please wear red, white and/or blue if you would like. Also, there's a possibility that it's going to be rainy/cold. I know this doesn't deter lber's (I've seen those pics Coffee Mug and Granny Butterfly!), but I just wanted to remind everyone to dress for any weather!
6) If you're going to spend the weekend in the area, there is a TON of stuff going on! Cuyahoga Falls (5 minutes from Akron) is having it's Oktoberfest (free parking, free admission, tasty food) and the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra is playing Beethoven's 9th at Blossom Music Center, on Saturday night, (you'll have to google this to find out more info and if you want to purchase tickets). Also, our local Fall Hiking Spree is ongoing, giving you a chance to earn a walking staff (if you can hike a bunch of trails in a couple of days which I know you lber's could do!).
7) Most importantly of all....be prepared to HAVE FUN!
Any other questions or comments, please aq me.
