Description

Boneyard Boxing is back, baby! :-) This year, we will be tackling the middle section of Erie County (below Walden Ave. where we stopped last year, continuing south to the southern bounds of Hamburg, Orchard Park, East Aurora, and Wales). This will be set up as a driving tour of cemeteries in the area. Some of these cemeteries are right next to houses, and tucked in little residential areas where you wouldn't figure to see a cemetery. It helps to carry a camera, or some paper for tombstone rubbings. If you're approached by muggles, just say you're on a "Erie County Cemetery" tour.

Our plan is to have the clues up and live by Thursday afternoon/evening. The event stamp and meet'n'greet portion will be at the Panera Bread location in Blasdell (3701 McKinley Parkway). This will take place from 12-3. Because we're meeting at a restaurant, and we're only there a few hours, we're requesting no additional tabletop event boxes be brought. We WILL have an event stamp, however. :-)

More info will be posted as the event approaches, but I wanted to get the date on everybody's radar. If you're interested in carving a stamp or two for this event, AQmail BfloAnonChick for more information about what we're looking for.

We had a lot of fun doing this event last year (on short notice!), and this year should be even better! Can't wait to see everyone again! :-)

Oct 5, 2012: Boneyard Boxing Update!
Hello all! The route has been mapped out, some of the boxes planted, with the remainder to go out over the long weekend. Because of how this year's route is shaped, we're going to make the event stamp available in 2 different locations in the morning and evening. In the morning, you can get the event stamp from 9 am till 12 noon at the Panera Bread on Transit Rd., near Losson in Depew. And then in the evening, you have another chance to get the event stamp at the Panera Bread on McKinley Pkwy. in Blasdell, between 5 and 7 p.m. Both locations will be written into the route, so you can find them easily.

The route will begin on Dale Rd. in Cheektowaga (and the event location has been updated to reflect that).

To aid those of you who are coming from far away and/or are GPS-dependent, we've created a Google map that shows all of the cemetery locations we'll be visiting. (Though you'll still want to refer to the directions we post, since there's a road closure to avoid.) If you look at it in list view, the cemeteries are indeed in route order, and this should work on your cell phone (it works on mine), but I suggest checking it before you set out. The link to that map will be posted within the next couple of days. The clues themselves will likely go live Thursday evening. If you are travelling and won't be able to print them then, please contact me, and I'll send you an early copy.

T-minus 8 days! :-)

Oct 10, 2012: It's a Map!
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=209865477450363445693.0004cb3cb3a34d951ef34&msa=0&ll=42.85382,-78.604431&spn=0.588942,0.883026

Above is the link for the Google Map of all of the cemetery locations. Clues will probably go live tomorrow, but are still being worked on right now. But you can start readying your GPSes now, if you so desire.

Some notes about the map:
- The order of the cemeteries given at the left side of your screen when you open the map is the order they will be in for the tour. If you wish to do the cemeteries in a different order, you may, but this is the order the clues/driving directions will be given in.
- Locations marked in blue are planted and ready to go.
- Locations marked in red are waiting for a stamp. (We're still waiting for a package of 3 to come, and one other has gone missing already, and will be replanted tomorrow.)
- Locations in yellow are the two Panera's locations where the event stamp will be.
- Locations that have a dot in the center of the marker are cemeteries where there are other boxes planted, so you know where to look up additional clues for.
- There are 2 locations where the stamp is planted a distance away from the actual cemetery, for reasons that will be apparent in the clues. For these locations, the pin is at the box location.
- There is an area in Marilla marked with a red line that indicates a possible road closure. A week ago when TF and GBS were planting, they encountered it, but when BAC drove down it on Sunday, it was open. We don't know what its status will be on Saturday. Directions will be provided in the clues in either event.

As you can see, we have a lot of cemeteries on the tour again this year. Once the clues are posted, the stamps are fair game. If you're in town early and want to do some seeking on Friday, feel free. If you're going to try to do the whole deal on Saturday, I recommend you plan on getting the event stamp in the morning, just in case you're still a distance away during the evening. :-)

Questions? AQmail BAC. :-)

Oct 11, 2012: Clues!
http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=208559

The post office is still playing shenanigans with Bumble's stamps. (She sent them almost 2 weeks ago!) The hope at this point is that we will have them in time to make them available along with the event stamp at Panera's. Those locations are marked in the clues.

I'm heading to bed now. :-) See you all on Saturday!

Oct 12, 2012: They're here!!! :-)
The last 3 stamps were sitting in my mailbox when I got home tonight. They will be available at the 2 restaurant locations with the event stamp. To get them, show us a cell phone pic of each of the 3 cemeteries, so we know you were there. :-)

They'll be planted in their permanent spots on Sunday or Monday.
