Description
Come join the Santa Fe letterboxers for a mini meet in the mountains near Santa Fe. We will have the event at Group Shelter 2 in Hyde State Park, off the Ski Basin Rd., the same spot we hosted an event several years ago. We will have new boxes that have been planted specially for the event, as well as many others that are already in the area. We also encourage participants to bring a box of their own to HYDE (it is Hyde State Park, after all!). For more information on the state park, please check out their website. http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/hydememorialstatepark.html It includes information regarding how to get there, weather, park layout and camping. There is a $5 Day Use Fee (per vehicle) - Please Note: do not pay at the designated fee station. You will need to find Astro D, lionsmane, or ArnoldZiffel and pay one of them at the event. We will need to collect the fee from eveyone and then pay the rangers all at once. Please be advised that we will be in the mountains and the temperatures at this time of year can drop pretty low at night and early morning and get into the high 60’s during the day. Dressing in layers will help make sure you don’t get too cold or hot. There is a fireplace at the shelter and we will provide a fire if it is too cold in the morning.
We are requesting that attendees bring their own sack lunch and snacks, as well as plenty of water. Please be aware that no glass containers are allowed in the park!
Please also be aware that there is no cell service at the park. A pay phone, as well as potable water, is available nearby at Black Canyon Campground.
The event officially begins at 10am, but lionsmane will be at our group shelter soon after 8am. So, if anyone wants to get an early start, they can stop by the shelter and talk to lionsmane, who will be there with maps and can help you plan your boxing routes. If you bring a box to hide, you would have plenty of time to do it before the event that morning. But hopefully everyone can be at the shelter around 10 am for exchanges and for copying clues to boxes that were hidden that morning. (Another option: you can always send us your boxes before the event if you want us to HYDE them, which gives you more time for FINDING....!) The general plan is to meet for exchanges in the morning, then after our sack lunches, everyone will probably split up and go boxing. But you are free to do what you wish!
If you plan on camping: there is camping at Hyde State Park but if you type in the dates to make a reservation online, it will show nothing is available. The ranger says there are 41 spaces that are only available on a first come first served basis and not reservable onliine so you should hopefully be able to get a spot. If you'd feel better if you had a reservation, try Black Canyon Campground in the Santa Fe National Forest, they are right next to Hyde Park. They also have a mix of reservable and non-reservable spaces.
We really hope to see you there! If you have any concerns about directions, if you need help locating a hotel or if you just have general questions please feel free to email any of us here at Atlas Quest.
There are already a lot of boxes planted along Hyde Park Rd./ the Ski Basin Rd. It can all be a bit overwhelming figuring out what is where. So - here's a list of boxes that we think are active (check this list as it may change) in the area - the list starts at the bottom of Hyde Park Rd. (closest to town) and ends with boxes up around the Ski Area. PLEASE print out clues for any of these boxes that you may want to find BEFORE you come to the event! There is no electricity at the event and we will be unable to print clues there. And no cell service means your letterboxing apps won't work either.

Sep 23, 2014: a few final notes....!
Hey everyone.....
A few final notes-
First, The Woodshed wanted people to know that the FF cards in their boxes are on AQ as LTCs. Just look at the back of the card and there will be an AQ number that you can do a search on. Patty would love to know who found her FF LTCs!
Second- thanks to wronght for posting pics of the event - see event page and click "View".
And finally, if there is ANY chance anyone found a pair of (prescription) sunglasses at a letterbox on Sunday, please let me know, Patty lost hers then.
Happy trails to you all!

Sep 24, 2014: Thanks for coming to Santa Fe!
Hi All,
Just wanted to echo Astro D's thought about the event. Thanks to everyone who attended and who planted boxes in the Santa Fe area. We really appreciate it. It was good to catch up with old friends and to meet new people as well. Hopefully we will all run in to each other again - either at an event or on the trail. And thankfully we had perfect weather for the weekend and especially the day of the event and I hope that it gave you a chance to find lots of boxes and enjoy some of the things Santa Fe has to offer. Anytime you are in the Santa Fe area please let us know, we would love to meet for a cup of coffee or for a little letterboxing. Thanks again for attending!
