Description
For some of us, the letterboxing season is just about over. But that doesn't mean we can't start thinking about next season!Join us at Webster Park in Webster, NY (just east of Rochester) for a chance to sharpen those letterboxing skills that may have dulled over the snowy winter months. Get back outside and do some Spring Training - Letterbox Style.
We'll have lots of boxes planted in the park with opportunities to...
• Walk the trails and see Lake Ontario
• Decipher riddles and clues
• Practice compass skills
• Visit a hitchhiker hostel
• Find kid-friendly boxes
• Search for bonus boxes
• Visit with LBers that you have seen in a while
• Exchange with some new LBers that you haven't meet
If you've got a big year of letterboxing planned, then you need to get ready for it with a little Spring Training. We can't promise the sunshine and warmth of Florida like the Big Leaguers get, but we can promise a lot of fun and good times!
More details will be posted as we get closer to the event, but we hope to see you there!
April 10 Update
After much anticipation and excitement, the snow has finally melted and the season of Spring is upon us! Its gonna be a great year for a lot of things, especially Letterboxing!
There are lots of new boxes and stamps that have been planted for this event, and thanks to those of you that contributed your artistic talents. Cluebooks for these boxes will be provided at the event This will ensure that those attending get the first crack at 'em! By Sunday morning, the clues will be posted on AQ to allow others to search for them, and for those at the event to log their finds.
We've reserved an outdoor pavilion. So keep this in mind when you arrive; it is still April in Western, NY so have a snow shovel just in case. (Wait... focus on positive thinking...) At least come prepared for not-so-nice weather. We'll be at the Valley View Pavilion in Webster Park; it's the one by the tennis courts.
Itinerary:
We can meet at the pavilion around 10 o'clock. We can meet, greet, socialize, and exchange when we get there. We will also eat an early lunch around 11:00 (see below). Then shortly before noon, head out into the park to shake off the dust and rust from a long letterboxing-less winter. Then, once people have had their fill, or the kids start to get tired, everyone can go there separate ways. Unless of course someone makes other plans!!
There will be some kid-friendly boxes for the little ones planted close to the pavilion. I'm running a zutter-machine tutorial, so I'll be making some simple logbooks for any kids that don't have their own. There is a compass course, some unique stamping opportunities, a hitchhiker hostel, some hidden-in-plain-sight boxes, and a wide variety of others.
Food Signups: It's potluck; don't expect to feed everyone, but bring enough to share. Send me a message and I'll post what has been signed-up for so far.
