Sub Accounts
Board: Letterboxing Help Desk

Can someone explain Sub Accounts a little more to me please ☺️ I get the just, and I actually have 2 for my kids, and one for myself/alias. But I'm not really sure how they work 🙄
Like I would think my Alias and normal account would have the same numbers. For example finds and such. But they don't.
I'm coming back to letterboxing after losing my husband and a Loooonnngg hiatus from LBing. And our name was a Team name. A mixing of all of our first initials. Which really doesn't make sense to use anymore since it's just me. My son's are both adults now, and say they will come with me once in a while, but not every time like we used to.
If you got through all this thanks for reading 🥰
Any advice on what I can do?
Thanks Trish aka RainDropBlue

They are a completely separate account that can be controlled by the main account. If they had the same numbers, it wouldn't be a very good alias!

I guess I didn't think of it that way 🤔 I was thinking of it as one member of a group team trail name is the only one letterboxing anymore due to the passing of a loved one and kids aging. And needing to adapt to the way things are now.
Thanks 💜
I guess the next question would be then is there a way to change my trail name to my alias? Probably not seeing how that account already exists 🙄

When I started letterboxing, it was primarily to find out if it was a real thing, or just another internet spoof site. It took me about a year to go from "I'd like to…" to "We're going!" mainly because the nearest boxes to me were over an hour away, and how can you live down wasting all that time and gas on a trick? Fortunately, my son moved to a letterboxing hotbed and my first ventures were with him at his new home.
For me, letterboxing has become an obsession that leads to creative ideas, going to those off-the-beaten-track places that are peaceful, unique, and "real" - small cemeteries on back roads, and other places like that. It has also lead slowly to additional activities like book binding and similar paper crafts which grew out of that first box I planted - gotta have some kind of logbook.
I have also learned to get over it more easily if I don't find what I'm looking for. Persistence is sometimes futile ~ it's been gone a while and nobody knew it.
It slows me down.

There are some mixed feelings on that. Maybe I will reach out to the event planners to see how they feel. I'll mull it over some.

Welcome back, RainDropBlue!
We also started with a family account and since then our kids have grown up and wanted their own separate accounts too. I ended up sending a message to an administrator to copy over the plants/finds so they have credit for the letterboxing adventures we had together.
Going forward, if they are listed as a subaccount, I believe you can select which of the subaccounts you want to log the finds as well. So if your sons come along, you can log their finds too.
(It looks like this works for adult and child subaccounts, but not alias subaccounts. But you should be able to change subaccount type if needed)
If you want to make RainDropBlue the primary account, I’m sure the administrators can help with that too.

We have planted at both Dartmoor and London. I would plant for the American tourist letterboxer. They seem to be the most active. We found an urban neighborhood park near where we stayed in London. We didn’t expect longevity with the plant. Should you head over to Dartmoor it needs a lot of planning. It’s huge and takes time. Ideally you need a yearly clue book and an ordinance of the area you want to box and compass and triangulation skills and probably a day or two.
I would suggest looking for the boxes on AQ or LBNA while in England. And plant similarly or near the most active boxes and their locations.

Thank you, Celtic Roots! Good advice to plant for the American tourist letterboxer, near other active boxes!
I'll be with my noxer siblings, so we won't be heading to Dartmoor. They're patient with me while I find and plant, but I don't think they'd speak to me again if we boxed in Dartmoor! 😬

Your sons' sub-accounts can be split off into their own main accounts to do with as they will.

Aliases are supposed to be "secret" accounts--accounts you control but you don't necessarily want anyone else to know that you control them. Some of them are used for planting boxes, and some of them are clearly spoofs of real trail names, and well.... whatever other pranks people come up with.
The "adult" and "child" sub-accounts are the ones that you don't mind being publicly known. A "child", in this case, is generally meant for actual youngins who are probably too young to really be roaming freely around the Internet. If it's a grown child that is allowed to surf the internet on their own, better to make it an "adult" account. Child accounts can't post messages and stuff which are limitations that the adult accounts don't have. The type of a sub-account can be changed whenever it's needed.
An admin can delete your alias account to free up the name, then you can change your trailname to whatever you want to use as your new trailname. Just contact an admin to delete the alias account.

While the world's richest man is allowed to rummage willy nilly throughout the gears of our government, with every ounce of irony he could muster, J D Vance summoned the ghost of George Orwell to call the everyday punch clock workers of the government the real Oligarchy.

It’s very concerning that a guy with his fingers in many business pies has full access to the financial information of every American taxpayer and American business. There’s no conflict of interest?

It's apparent that we are being led by the ends justify the means crowd. If the end is having the most money and power, he's sure going about it the right way. Does he even have an established code de déontologie?

We live between Wenatchee & Lake Chelan. Chelan is amazing, especially in the summer, but it gets pretty crowded during holiday weekends ♡ Another place is Steheiken (probably not spelled correctly). The only way to get there is by taking the Lady of the Lake which is a ferry with no cars. It's really beautiful. It can only be reached by taking water transportation. Chelan has many places to rent water toys.

What was I supposed to garner from watching a video shown at the beginning of every Narcissist Anonymous meeting? Hope Bill bought two pairs of pants with that jacket because he certainly wore out the knees during that interview.
But seriously, did I miss the part when they discuss his credentials to unilaterally determine who should work for the government and which departments are needed? Would there be any that he needs in his life other than the ones who grant his companies large government contracts?
I mean he is a great entrepreneur who has invested wisely. What do you think he expects his ROI to be? If it's a slash and burn of all but the most essential spending, why am I thinking a trip to Mars won't be on the chopping block?
An aside: I f one wanted to distance themselves from a palm down, straight arm salute, addressing the German far right AfD party almost immediately after on a giant screen was a bad choice.
Give the man credit though, If you do a side by side comparison, Elon nailed the salute!

Speedball, ink jet transparencies

Good morning
This may be a bit of an inept question but does 'Speedball Ink Jet Transparencies' require heat?
I'm not able to transfer by setting on the rubber. Nothing
My other transparency that came from a wonderful person here on AQ years ago, transfers like charm by setting down on the rubber, but I'm down to one sheet and it's very cloudy due to overuse.
Please help me figure this one out. I hate to toss those 6 brand new sheets. It's not the printer. It's the plastic. Both sides have been tried.

Planting in box-dense areas or unplanted areas?
Board: Letterbox Chatter
Feb 4, 2025 9:24am
Hi friends! I am planning a few plants for upcoming virtual events and I wanted to pick people's brains. Do you all prefer to plant in areas where there are already some boxes (not planting on top of anything already out there, of course, but within say a 15 mile radius), or areas that are largely untouched (not out in the middle of a field, but towns and parks and such that are LB deserts)?
I feel like when I was brand new my impulse was to fill the void and plant in areas that haven't gotten any love yet, but I'm kind of finding that those tend to go longer without finds (and I also appreciate as a finder, looking in an area with several means you can go for more and if one is missing you don't feel you've missed out).
I guess I'm wondering if you think it's still worth it to plant in those somewhat out of the way areas? Maybe yes but just not as often? Am I just overly impatient and need to accept that 'boxing is a waiting game? XD

As a planter, I plant in places where I’d like people to go. I know that some places are off the beaten path, so the boxes won’t get many finders, but that’s okay.
As a finder, I enjoy going on hikes that are off the beaten path. I wouldn’t go way out of the way for a drive-by, but I would for a longer, nice hike.
I hope that helps!

I never plant a box based on how often it may or may not be found. And I think it is very much worth it to plant in out of the way places. And I love to look for boxes seldom found.
I think boxing would be a lot less interesting if we confine ourselves to only planting and looking in the easy places, the places where there are tons of boxes, where we “get more bang for the buck”.
I don’t plant a huge number of boxes and I usually wind up planting where they are seldom found. But I’m never “waiting” for finders. They get found when they get found.
I know quite a few people who plant really interesting boxes in great places but because those places are out of the way spots they are seldom found. I have a lot of respect for those planters. They help make boxing really interesting and challenging.

Yes, plants in areas with other boxes nearby will usually get more attention! The question is what do you desire by planting?
I recently struggled with this question. We planted many boxes on difficult trails which were not attracting finders. Why plant if nobody cares? Sure, planting is fun as an activity, but receiving find reports is very rewarding.
Now I simply accept that boxes planted on difficult trails, or in lonely areas, or some other less than desirable condition, may not receive many finds. And it may be awhile before the first find so be sure to plant carefully using a weather resistant box and avoid rotting stumps (because they will continue to rot :)
If you like the quick feedback of found reports then only plant where quick finds are likely. If you plant in less busy places then just accept that it might be awhile.
We continue to plant both types of boxes, and everything in between. Currently we have 8 active boxes which do not have finds listed, and most of them are drive by cemetery boxes. So our more difficult and lonely boxes have been found before several easy drive by boxes?
