LbNA Under New Management!
Yes, it’s finally official! Green Tortuga has taken over Letterboxing North America (LbNA) and is now the undisputed dictator of our little hobby known as letterboxing!
“Choi’s retirement really threw open the doors for this power grab,” the hard-shelled leader was quoted as saying, “but I have no plans to let it go my head. I’ll continue to run it as a business that everyone from ages 2 to 122 can enjoy.”
Many improvements have already been implemented, and more are on the way.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- What or who is the Silverbacks Consortium?
- Choi did not feel it was right to allow me to take over LbNA since I already ran the Atlas Quest website, so I created the Silverbacks Consortium alias to pretend it was really a group of old-time letterboxers that wanted to take over the responsibility of running LbNA. It was a necessary deception in order to consolidate my power.
- What changes have been implemented?
- You will find that the interactive pages of the website now work considerably better on smartphones, and there’s a new Lost Password Center for all you folks who can’t remember your password.
- What changes and updates are in store for the future of LbNA?
-
- Not much, really. The website, however, must earn its keep. As a result, we’ll soon start charging for clues. You’ll be able order pay-per-clue ($1/clue) or buy an all-access pass for $329/year. This update takes a significant amount of work, but it should be completed within the next week or two.
- Unfortunately, we’ve had to lay off 50% of the paid employees. Anyone who didn’t show up to the LbNA headquarters to clean their desk had their desks cleaned for them. (We’re always looking for more volunteers, however!)
- Support for blue checks will be added to verified accounts—all for just $8/month.
- The name of the site is Letterboxing North America—boxes located outside of North America will no longer be supported.
- Some controversial members from the past such as Forest Defender and Prolific Geocacher will be reinstated. Everyone deserves a second chance and the freedom to create and destroy boxes.
- There’s a lot of old, abandoned boxes on LbNA. We will try reaching out to the owners of said boxes, but if it turns out they can’t be reached or we don’t hear back, we’ll be deleting those boxes.
- Additionally, LbNA is about finding letterboxes, not about recording finds or attempts. Any boxes that are determined to be ‘probably missing’ (i.e. attempted) will also be deleted. We are not interested in boxes that no longer exist. And frankly, they take up too much server space anyhow.
- All boxes on LbNA will be copied to Atlas Quest automatically as premium-member-only clues.
- I have promoted all of my boxes to Blue Diamond status. In order to do this, I will needed to invent Blue Diamonds for LbNA. So far, nobody else has earned any.
