- wassabaiting

When one makes a post, message, or comment that is such an egregious double entendre that even wassamatta_u has to bite his virtual tongue to refrain from responding, this is known as wassabaiting. A skill worth mastering.
- waterbar

Waterbars are drain-dips that have transcended to a higher state of being. They are like drain-dips, but are re-enforced with either rock or a log to help sustain a greater volume of water.
- West Nile virus

The West Nile virus, first discovered in New York, has spread from coast to coast. The disease is spread by mosquitoes, and is a growing concern across the country. If you find yourself in mosquito country, use insect repellent (with DEET) and wear long pants with long-sleeved shirts to help foil their attempts at biting you. WhatPulse.org is a website that allows you to download software to track the number of times you press a key on your keyboard, click a button on your mouse, and how much you move your mouse. It can also keep track of how often you press which keys get pressed if you so choose. A whitelist is a type of restriction available for letterboxes and trackers so that only a small, specific group of hand-picked friends can access the listing. You can learn more about whitelists and how to create them in the help pages under What is a whitelist?
- widget

A small gadget or mechanical device, especially one whose name is unknown or unspecified. In computing, it is a a small application with limited functionality that can be installed and executed within a web page by an end user. Each of the components on My Page, for instance, is called a widget.
- wolf tree

A wolf tree is a tree that hovers high over everything and little grows under it. Typically they are tall oaks with numerous outstretched limbs.
- Word-of-Mouth (WOM)

Many letterbox clues are passed around as WOM clues for a variety of reasons, but always to help restrict the clue for some reason. Perhaps it’s in an area that cannot handle a large amount of visitors, or as a thank you for specific people who’ve contributed to letterboxing in some way, or to keep the clue off the Internet where search engines might cache them or link to them. WOM does not necessarily mean the clue is verbal—just that the clue is not online or is restricted in some manner.
